Interesting stuff released by Apple

I was particularly interested in Xcode 3.0. I’m currently using XCode 2.0 to develop an add-in for iPhoto. I had to recall a bit of my NeXT software development skills from a few years back. Objective C is OK, but to me seems quite primitive to go back to program in that language after using Pyhton.
The timeline view of code profiling a-la Garageband looks cool. I can’t wait to see it in action.

Switched from Fink to DarwinPorts

I’ve been using Fink for a while to run on the Mac some open source packages I like to have. However after looking at the list of packages available for DarwinPorts I decided to switch. Both have very similar user interface, and the switch went very smooth. One of the packages I like to run is GRAMPS, the Genealogical Research and Analysis Management Programming System. It is on Fink, but you have to enable the unstable branches, and some other things. It installed straight away in DarwinPorts. Also, Keychain has a newer version in DarwinPorts. I’ll see how it went after a week or so of using it.
